Glossary G DATA 365 | Mail Protection

Which terms might you encounter in connection with G DATA 365 | Mail Protection, and what do they mean?

Connectors

On Premises Exchange Server requires a connector to enable inbound and outbound message flow on the Exchange server and between services in the transport pipeline.
Microsoft Online generally no longer uses these connectors. After setting up the Tenant, the administrator can add a domain for which mailboxes can be created immediately. To receive email, the administrator then only needs to point the MX record to the Office 365 environment. No changes are required for sending, because the mailboxes can all send directly.
An administrator must always create connectors when they want to route email differently or grant privileges to specific senders.
Therefore, Office 365 also offers the option of setting up corresponding connectors.

Microsoft Graph API

Microsoft Graph API (Application Programming Interface) is an interface provided by Microsoft for controlled access to data and information in Microsoft 365.

MX-Record

The abbreviation MX stands for Mail Exchange. Via the MX-Record, a querying mail server receives information via DNS about which IP address a mail server can be reached at.

Rescan

Every email that has been forwarded to the recipient’s mailbox is checked in the mailbox at irregular intervals for the next few days.

Certificate

A digital certificate is an electronic credential that is generally issued by a certificate authority (CA). Certificates are comparable to a government-issued ID card. A certificate can be used to securely assign a public key to a specific owner. The contents of a certificate can include, among other things, information about the owner, a password, a domain, the issuer of the certificate, and the certificate’s validity period.
A certificate can also be created manually (self-signed public certificate).
The certificate required for our G DATA 365 | Mail Protection secures access to your Microsoft Exchange Online.
