G DATA Mobile Device Management General Information

The G DATA Endpoint Security Android app can be installed by the device owner without the administrator being present, without special prior technical knowledge. The new generation can be conveniently downloaded from the Google Play Store. Enrolling the endpoints is also easy via QR code.

We have moved the management of your mobile Android and iOS endpoints (MDM) to our secure G DATA cloud server hosted in Germany.

Until the beginning of the millennium, it was sufficient to analyze malware in the lab and detect malicious files using newly created signatures. Since then, we have had to respond ever faster to new threats.

An effective way out of this dilemma is to send security-relevant information about files to a backend, consolidate data from many users there, and derive conclusions about current threats. The key is to select and/or anonymize the relevant data in such a way that users’ privacy is protected. Today, it is no longer possible to ensure adequate security if you forgo the use of telemetry data.

In the meantime, this telemetry data has become more important for fast and effective protection of the device than signature-based detection. The information required to provide this protection exceeds the capacities of the devices to be protected by many times over and therefore can no longer be transmitted. Although some information is still available in a signature-based form, the version number plays a rather subordinate role for administrators. It is more important to focus on the actual events. To provide administrators with the best possible overview, during the development of the new G DATA Mobile Device Management we replaced the old tools "Virus Signature Status" and "Reports" with the new "MDM Recommended Actions".
