The G DATA Agent no longer starts (Windows Server 2016)

The G DATA Agent no longer starts after a system update on Windows Server 2016 systems. This can occur after the Windows update from July 2025.

Solution

Unfortunately, a change by Microsoft causes this issue, and G DATA cannot take direct action to resolve it. However, there is a workaround.

To do this, open the Microsoft "Group Policy" (press the Windows key and enter "Group Policy" in the search field) and navigate to Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Device Guard.

Disabling virtualization-based security

In DeviceGuard, open "Turn On Virtualization Based Security" and disable this functionality.
