How exactly does Verdict-as-a-Service work?

Cloud Malware Scan

G DATA Verdict-as-a-Service (VaaS) shifts scanning by the traditional anti-malware engine from the endpoint to the cloud. We provide you with a Software Development Kit (SDK) that controls the scanning process via the cloud. Every file uploaded within your application is then scanned for malware before it is processed or shared.

  • Upload

A file is uploaded in your application.

  • Analysis

    less than 1 second

The file is securely sent to the G DATA Cloud via the VaaS API and scanned by the multi-award-winning G DATA AntiMalware engine.

  • Verdict

Feedback to your application within milliseconds in the form of clear “verdicts” (e.g., “Clean,” “Malicious,” “PUP”).

Florian Kuckelkorn

Given the high level of threat in the digital space, cyber-resilient systems require integrated and customized security solutions. IT security measures that operate exclusively at the endpoint are therefore insufficient. What is needed is a holistic and comprehensive protection strategy. With this in mind, we have developed Verdict-as-a-Service (VaaS)—a cloud-based and thus native malware protection solution.

Where Verdict-as-a-Service is used

Use Cases

Verdict-as-a-Service is the perfect complement to modern cloud applications that require flexible and scalable malware protection mechanisms. Whether in the cloud, in mobile apps, or on communication platforms—VaaS adapts to your specific needs.

File Sharing & Cloud Platforms

Companies that exchange or store large amounts of data—such as file-sharing services or cloud storage providers—benefit from automated malware scans.

  • Scan uploaded files in real time before they are made available to other users.
  • Protect your customers from malicious files, even if they don’t use local security software.

SaaS Solutions

For Software-as-a-Service providers that handle sensitive data, VaaS provides an additional layer of protection.

  • Integrate malware scans directly into your platform, such as job application portals or document management systems.
  • Offer your users a security upgrade and build trust through secure data exchange.

Communication Tools

Applications such as email services, team chats, and social networks use VaaS to detect malware in file attachments.

  • Automatically scan shared attachments in chats or groups.
  • Reduce security risks before content is stored on end devices.

Mobile Apps & IoT

For developers of mobile applications or IoT backends, VaaS offers a simple way to close security gaps.

  • Scan images, videos, or documents that users upload directly through the backend.
  • Prevent attacks on IoT devices caused by infected files.

Gateways & Proxys

Network systems that establish external connections can be made more secure with VaaS.

  • Run malware scans before data is transmitted to third parties.
  • Optimize your gateway security without additional hardware.

  • Was unterscheidet G DATA Verdict-as-a-Service von klassischen Antivirenlösungen?

The cloud-based malware scan is a constantly up-to-date alternative designed specifically to meet the needs of dynamic applications and work environments. VaaS shifts protection to the cloud, where files are scanned centrally before they can cause damage—regardless of whether they are shared on a laptop, a server, or a mobile device.

Verdict-as-a-Service offers the following advantages over traditional antivirus solutions:

    • No installation required and no regular updates needed; the cloud-based solution is always up to date
    • Scans take place in the cloud—no performance loss
    • Not limited to specific end devices or platforms, but easily integrable into any application (SDKs and APIs)
    • Scales automatically with your data volume—ideal for growing businesses
    • Pay-as-you-go model—no initial investment, no licensing or maintenance costs per device
  • I would like to integrate G DATA Verdict-as-a-Service into my application. How is usage billed?

If you’d like to use VaaS as an OEM solution, it runs integrated into a product and contributes to security. One possible scenario, for example, would be to activate a security add-on for the product. In these cases, we operate on a revenue-sharing basis with no minimum revenue requirements.
If VaaS is used solely for internal purposes within your company, we offer pre-configured package options. These are based on the number of your users and the required file scans.

  • How many files can I have scanned?

It doesn't matter whether you scan a handful or a million files per day. You can easily increase the volume of data you need to check if your use case calls for it.

  • What file types can be scanned?

Virtually all common file formats can be scanned, including PDFs, Office documents, images, videos, and executable files.

  • Is G DATA ISO 27001-certified?

Yes, our Information Security Management System (ISMS) is certified to ISO 27001:2022.
