Setting Up G DATA Mobile Device Management

This guide describes how to set up G DATA Mobile Device Management.

Setting Up G DATA Mobile Device Management Without Enterprise Features

If you want to use the basic features of G DATA Mobile Device Management (see also this article), whether with MXDR, G DATA Management Server, or as a standalone product, you only need access to Mobile Device Management Web Portal. This access is provided when the product is activated or through the associated MXDR or Business license.

Setting Up G DATA Mobile Device Management with Android Enterprise

You can use Enterprise Mobility Management features with a private Google account (without a Google domain) or with a super-admin account for an existing Google Workspace or Cloud Identity domain. The option you choose affects the Managed Google Accounts available on devices managed in MDM.

Android Enterprise is available only with MXDR or as a standalone product!
The Google accounts used for activation are not used to sign in to Mobile Device Management Web Portal.

Private Google Account

Super-Admin Account for a Google Workspace or Cloud Identity Domain

  • Devices managed in G DATA Mobile Device Management use Managed Google Play Accounts.

  • These are anonymous accounts that can access only the Managed Google Play Store and its apps.

  • They cannot access other Google services, such as Gmail or Google Calendar.

  • In addition to the Managed Google Play Accounts described above, Managed Google Accounts set up in the associated domain can be used on managed devices.

  • These are full Google accounts that can access all permitted Google services.

  • They can be assigned to managed devices during initial deployment or afterward.

You can also start Android Enterprise setup when you add a device before setting up Android Enterprise. In that case, an information box appears under "Fully Managed". Click Connect there to start the process.

A Google page opens where you can set up the Google account.

As noted above, you can use either a private Google account or a super-admin account for a Google Workspace or Cloud Identity domain. This affects the available features as described above.

Creating Additional Administrator Accounts Through Mobile Device Management Web Portal

You cannot create additional administrator accounts directly through Mobile Device Management Web Portal, because they are governed by MXDR or Business licensing. If necessary, contact the responsible team.
