G DATA is blocking the receipt of e-mail via my e-mail programme. What can I do?

Many e-mail providers have switched to SSL encryption. In doing so, e-mails and e-mail accounts have become much more secure. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to protect your e-mails with an anti-virus program. G DATA offers you the module Encrypted Connections (SSL) for this purpose. You also have the option of checking SSL-encrypted e-mails for viruses and malware.

In order for the G DATA software to check the e-mails encrypted with SSL, a certificate of the G DATA software must be imported into the e-mail program. This ensures that your G DATA software can check the incoming e-mails.

The instructions apply to all e-mail programmes that have a certificate store, e.g.:

  • Thunderbird

  • The Bat

  • Pegasusmail

Please proceed as follows if the certificate was not automatically installed by G DATA:

Open the G DATA software and click Email Verification > More Settings… and select Export Certificate… in the settings window. Save the certificate to the desktop or any other place.

Open the settings of your e-mail program. Switch to the category Privacy & Security, select Manage Certificates… under Certificates.

Remove G DATA entries in all tabs if present.

Then restart your computer using the restart function. (Windows key > On/Off > Restart).

Open your e-mail program.

Call up the certificate administration again as described in step 2 and switch to the certification authorities.

Click Import there, select the GDataRootCertificate.crt saved in step 1 and set the permission This certificate can identify websites.

Finally, restart your computer using the restart function. (Windows key > On/Off > Restart).

If a warning message continues to be issued as a result, please take a screenshot of this message, as well as of the displayed certificate and contact our support team.

You can then temporarily deactivate the SSL check under Email Check > Other Settings.
