This article explains the capabilities of split tunneling for G DATA VPN and how you can use it.

What is split tunneling?

Split tunneling refers to a technology that, while using a VPN, enables the direct communication of targeted data streams without a detour via the VPN. This can improve latency and available bandwidth for some applications.

How can you use split tunneling for G DATA VPN?

To use split tunneling, open the user interface for G DATA VPN and select the corresponding tab (Application icon).

Overview

Here, set the slider under "Enable split tunneling" to On. You can now add entries via the "Applications" and "Domain" tabs. A direct connection to the Internet is then possible for all entered applications and domains without detouring the data stream via the VPN.

Here you can select the applications for which you want to activate split tunneling.

To select an application, click on the Add button. An Explorer window will open, in which you can navigate to the desired application.

Navigate to the folder in which the desired application is located. Select the relevant .exe file there. Carry out this step for all applications that you want to add to split tunneling.

If you try to enter an application twice by mistake, an error message will appear.

Split tunneling for Domains

Here you can select the domains for which you want to activate split tunneling.

To add a domain, enter it in the text field below and then click on the Add button next to it.

If you try to enter a domain twice by mistake, an error message will appear.

As an additional function, you can also control at this point whether subdomains should be taken into account for split tunneling or not. To enable this, select the checkbox for the respective domain.

Removal of domains and applications for split tunneling

To delete an entry from the list, click on the trash can icon in the overview list (delete icon) behind the entry you want to remove.
