Defender can no longer be put into passive mode

Problem Description

G DATA has previously recommended setting Windows Defender to passive mode when installing our security solutions on server operating systems. However, due to a change made by Microsoft, the Defender can now only be set to passive mode if it is rolled out beforehand. For more information about Microsoft Defender passive mode, see here.

Solution

If you install our software on your Windows Server systems, we recommend uninstalling Microsoft Defender beforehand. Although this is not absolutely necessary, it prevents possible incompatibilities and improves performance.

If you decide to uninstall Microsoft Defender, you can run the following commands on the respective systems (administrator permission required):

Windows Server 2016

Uninstall-WindowsFeature Windows-Defender
Uninstall-WindowsFeature Windows-Defender-Gui

Windows Server 2019 (and newer)

Uninstall-WindowsFeature Windows-Defender

Afterward, restart the system and install the G DATA security solution.
